We exist to support our nation’s heroes through the various phases of their lives
SSG Jason Vazquez Post #939 was chartered October 16, 2020 in the midst of a pandemic, rising social tensions and America’s longest war winding down. With these issues came a need to support Veterans in the Chicagoland area through community outreach, specialized support services and above all, cameraderie.
The post was the first American Legion to be established in more than 10 years in the Chicagoland area. SSG Vazquez Post 939 continues to lead the district in membership growth and sustain support programs helping Veterans of all conflicts get the support they need.
We exist because of him
Staff Sgt. Jason Vazquez was assigned to the 2nd Battalion 122nd Field Artillery, Illinois Army National Guard based in Sycamore, Illinois. Prior to his passing he was also a Cook County Sheriff’s Deputy. Learn more about his life, his legacy and why we chose to honor his life.
